USCIS Filing Fees Changing on April 1, 2024

On January 30, 2024, USCIS made this official by releasing a final rule that will result in a change of certain filing fees. Although some fees are going down, many are going up. A change in fees hasn’t occurred since 2016. USCIS says that this change will help improve efficiency, reduce backlogs), and ensure that applications are timely processed.  You can read the full USCIS announcement here

Currently, the filing fee for filing a marriage-based adjustment of status green card application is $1760 for everything (petition, green card application, work permit application, and travel document). Starting April 1, 2024, the filing fees will be as follows depending on if you file the work permit and travel permit with your green card application.

  • Petition and green card application: $2115
  • Petition, green card application, and work permit application: $2375
  • Petition, green card application, work permit application, and travel permit application: $3005

Here are the new filing fees starting April 1, 2024, for other commonly filed applications:

  • I-130 petition: $625 if filed online, $675 if paper form is mailed (current fee is $535)
  • I-751 removal of conditions: $750 (current fee is $680)
  • N-400 naturalization application: $710 for online filing, $760 if paper form is mailed (current fee is $725)

Some Other Important Updates in the Final Rule:

  • Fee reductions for Special Immigrant Juveniles, victims of trafficking, crime, and domestic violence, U.S. military service members, Afghan allies, and families pursuing international adoption.
  • Special fee discounts for nonprofit organizations and small businesses.
  • Half-price Employment Authorization Document applications in certain cases.
  • 50% fee reduction for naturalization applications for those with household incomes between 150% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
  • $50 discount for online filers. Not all USCIS forms can be filed online at this time.

If the file is mailed to USCIS, they will use the postmark date to determine if the old or new filing fees will apply.
